How Does it work?
Step 1: We Install a start triplet of 2 Dev + 1 QA Engineer
We recommend starting with a triplet of 2 Dev + 1 QA Engineer. Optimally this creates the semblance of a team and sufficient processors to brainstorm amongst themselves remotely.
One of the Dev Engineers should be leading this seed team, and we call this a seed team because it multiplies, depending upon how fast you want to cover new ground. Our team members are hand-picked & filtered using our proprietary Willingness Ability methodology and from a wide selection funnel. (click here to download a copy)
Getting the team right is a prerequisite for all the super work they’ll do for you going ahead, and it pays to wait. The group is a crucial ingredient to your success.
Step 2: Drill down the Specs to a good-enough level
While Specs can never be documented entirely from the beginning, they've got to be around 70-75% established as early as possible. Many Engineering Teams make the mistake of going ahead with fully fluid Specs, which causes a lot of heartburn later, especially when trying to scale.
Our team works with you on this, and that also helps them get the proper context (Business Case, Requirements, Specs, and Priority). We hone in on the Specs and help you get them to a respectable level using our Spec Extraction Templates and Checklists.
Once we have completed this, the rest of the requirements can be uncovered in discussions. Getting this right has a lot of bearing on everything downstream (Design, Coding, Unit Testing)
Step 3: Map out the design for tasks on hand
Sound Design is the foundation of all engineering tasks, and so we recommend our teams map out the current product design well. We cover this by arranging for our tech lead to travel to your offices at the beginning of our engagement.
Our teams have been sensitized to focus on design (object-oriented or otherwise), not hurry up to CUT (Coding Unit Testing), and develop more alternative design approaches for every problem they solve. Our Design First Methodology trains our teams to focus on this aspect through templates and checklists for Non-Functional Requirements (Performance, Scalability, Security), specific monthly Design Workshops, Design Exercises, and Assignments.
We also measure bugs originating from design to fix design accountability, and conduct reviews specifically focused on innovation.
Step 4: Sequence tasks with a gradual exposure
The sequence in which the team begins the task is critical to the success of the engagement. UI tasks (dashboards or new forms) are good to get off the block since they provide instant feedback. These could be followed up with work on periphery modules that need some integrations or connections to other parts of the product ecosystem.
Deeper integrations within the product or consuming APIs for business logic could be the next thing as the team starts to dig deeper into the Product Architecture. Dependencies might start coming up and may need support from your core team.
Work on the core backend should be taken up as late as possible. This requires extensive hand-holding but is also much more complex for a team that is just starting.
Step 5: Set up a regular cadence for Communication & Collaboration
It would be best if you got hands-on with the Remote Team as early as possible to derive maximum benefits. The Tech Lead must travel and be in your office for an initial familiarization. Next, our team will partly shift their working time to give at least 2-3 hours of overlap with your time zone.
A Daily Standup will help resolve the initial or otherwise issues that the Team often faces when they get started. Such a Daily Update and a disciplined usage of the Collaboration & Project Management Tool go a long way in creating working rapport across locations.
That way, you will know the Team a little bit better; what are they working on, and where are they stuck? This regular Collaboration cadence is essential for everyone to start contributing at their highest level of ability.

If you're in a hurry to get off the ground, you will be able to get our superfast Team doing rapid app dev for you to get started quickly. Our Team has time and again delivered in extremely tight situations. If you require Machine Learning & Analytics capabilities, then that's something that we've added in the 3-4 years or so as well.
Usually, we start off with a 3 month engagement to be extended based on the value that Customers see for themselves. This is not a long-term lock-in as you can decide to pull the plug any time at the end of 3 months. The 3 month period is required to overcome teething issues and to give it a fair trial.
The solution usually works for Customers who are willing to invest a little bit of their time in the initial knowledge transfer. It usually takes about a couple of weeks for the Team to get going once the technology transfer has happened and then another 3-4 weeks for them to accelerate. The next 3-4 weeks and the team is in full swing punching above their weight.
When it hasn't worked is when Customers are unwilling to invest their time initially.
Also, it doesn't work when they are not in any particular hurry. The Team relies much on the Customer initially, to reciprocate with queries, solution brainstorming, design reviews and all kinds of collaboration. When that doesn't happen, it simply doesn't work.
